Palace of Tiberius

Roman Era

A majestic Roman residence built at the behest of Emperor Tiberius.
Located on top of Monte Tiberio, it offers a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naples. The villa was used as an imperial residence and as a fortress, and featured numerous rooms, gardens, and courtyards. Nowadays visitors can admire its remains.

How to get there: From Piazza Umberto I, take Via Le Botteghe, Via Fuorlovado, Via Croce and Via Tiberio; or, also from Piazza Umberto I, take Via Longano, Via Sopramonte, and Via Tiberio. Be aware that the road is entirely uphill, and the walk takes approximately 45 minutes.

Villa Fersen

Built in 1905 - Liberty style

Villa Lysis, also known as Villa Fersen, is a romantic residence commissioned by the French Count Jacques d'Adelsward Fersen. Built in 1905 on a cliff overlooking the sea in Capri, Fersen dedicated the villa "to the youth of love." Its design was inspired by classical and modern European architecture, with elements of Art Nouveau. A fascinating and symbolic place to visit, it is now owned by the City of Capri.

How to get there from the center of Capri: From the Piazzetta there are two ways to get there—from Via Longano and Via Sopramonte, or from Via Le Botteghe, Via Fuorlovado, and Via Croce. Both routes arrive at the "cross" where you then take Via Tiberio until it intersects at Via Lo Capo.

The Gardens of Augustus, located a few steps from the Piazzetta of Capri, offer panoramic views of the bay of Marina Piccola, the spectacular Via Krupp, and the Faraglioni. The gardens were created on the property of German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp and contain many native species of flowers and plants found on the island of Capri. The entrance to the famous Via Krupp is located next door to the gardens, and leads to Marina Piccola.

The Blue Grotto of Capri is perhaps the most famous attraction on the island. It's a sea cave located on the northwest coast of the island of Capri, famous for the intense blue color of its crystalline waters. The cave can only be accessed by small boats, and once inside, the effects of the light filtering through the opening of the cave create a magical and surreal effect.

How to get there from Marina Grande (port of Capri): Take a motorboat then transfer to a rowboat. Embarkation from Pier 0 (zero) and Pier 21.
From Anacapri: Public bus departing from the terminal in Viale De Tommaso (15 minutes); taxi from Piazza Vittoria (10 minutes); walk along Via Grotta Azzurra, from Piazza Vittoria - Via Pagliaro - Via Tuoro (50 minutes).
Then transfer to a rowboat.

Typical length of visit: the visit lasts 10 minutes; however, the wait time to enter the Blue Grotto could be more than one hour.

The Charterhouse of St. Giacomo (Certosa di San Giacomo) is an ancient 14th-century monastery that was transformed into a prison during the Napoleonic era. Until a few years ago it housed Capri's high school, and now it's a museum dedicated to the German painter Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach, an archeological museum and hosts art exhibitions.

Ignazio Cerio Museum

Ignazio Cerio (1841-1921) was a doctor and mayor on Capri, and this small museum is housed in his former residence. Most of the collections date back to the end of the last century and include over 20,000 naturalistic and archaeological finds collected by Cerio between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th.

Villa Axel Munthe

Villa San Michele was built by the Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe. It's a museum open to the public and preserves Munthe's original furnishings and collection of archaeological finds.

The villa offers a panoramic view of the bay of Naples and is surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean gardens. One of its most famous icons is the sphinx statue located on the scenic lookout.

How to get there from the center of Capri: Take the public bus to Anacapri, getting off at Piazza Vittoria (the main stop), go up the stairs in front of the stop and continue along the tree-lined avenue on the left.

The chairlift leaves from the square in Anacapri and takes you to the top of Mount Solaro; the ride lasts approximately 10 minutes. The chairlift is one of the oldest in Italy and was inaugurated in 1952. It's about 590 meters (1,935 feet) long and reaches a height of 589 meters (1,932 feet) above sea level. Once you get to the top, there's a bar and several viewing terraces.

How to get there from the center of Capri: Take the public bus to Anacapri and get off at the main stop (Piazza Vittoria), then take the stairs from there. The chairlift entrance is on the right.

Typical length of visit: The ride to the top takes about 12 minutes, and you can stay as long as you like.

Painting gallery and museum - Permanent exhibition: ‘’The Painted Island"

The Casa Rossa (Red House) is a historic home built in the late 1800s by John Clay MacKowen, a colonel in the US Army. It represents one of the best examples of eclectic style in Capri, characterized by the fusion of architectural and decorative motifs from different cultures and eras. Today, the Casa Rossa houses a municipal collection of 19th-century paintings and four Roman statues recovered from the seabed of the Blue Grotto.

Archeological park

This Roman villa is located in the northwestern part of the island of Capri in the town of Anacapri. It was discovered and restored by Amedeo Maiuri between 1937 and 1948, after having been buried for centuries. Only a part of the villa has been excavated and made accessible to the public, with a large terrace overlooking the sea, a panoramic loggia, and a residential area at the foot of the medieval tower.

How to get there: From Anacapri, piazzetta Cimitero, with the public bus (Grotta Azzurra line), the stop is Damecuta. On foot, from piazza Vittoria, walk along via G. Orlandi, via Pagliaro, and via Tuoro.
From Villa Damecuta, you can take via Damecuta to reach the Blue Grotto (by bus or taxi 10 minutes, on foot 25 minutes).

This church is famous for its majolica floor representing Adam and Eve driven out of the earthly paradise by an angel with his flaming sword. It's a Baroque church that was built between 1698 and 1719.

This 10th-century castle earned its name, which translates to red beard because that was the nickname of the Ottoman corsair Khayr al-Dīn who conquered it in 1535. Some ruins remain in the original castle, which is now the site of an ornithological station. It is owned by the Axel Munthe Foundation, which organizes guided tours for groups of 4 to 20 people.

Reservations are required by email or by phone, at least the day before. Visits take place only in favorable weather conditions.

The Evangelical Church of Capri is a neo-Romanesque structure from 1899, a testament to the presence of Protestant Germans on the island. The church is located in via Tragara and is a fine example of 19th-century architecture. It has belonged to the Lutheran Community of Naples since 2006 and regularly hosts religious celebrations and cultural events.

How to get there from the center of Capri: from the Piazzetta, continue along Via Camerelle and then follow the road that leads to the famous viewpoint of the Faraglioni of Tragara. The Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at the very beginning of this street on the left.

Villa Rosa was originally the Art Nouveau residence of English doctor Henry Thompson Green and was later purchased by Swedish psychiatrist and writer Axel Munthe, who donated it to the City of Anacapri for cultural purposes. Long used as a high school, Villa Rosa underwent an important redevelopment project that transformed it into a museum. It now houses a permanent collection of the works of Capri painter Raffaele Castello and works by various artists and photographers who over the centuries have chosen the island of Capri as a refuge or place of inspiration.
