A beautiful residence, positioned between the flower-strewn slopes of Monte Solaro and the sparkling Mediterranean sea, Anacapri's Hotel Orsa Maggiore is one of the island of Capri's best kept secrets.

Part luxury villa, part boutique hotel, Orsa Maggiore combines the island's traditional architecture and contemporary Italian interior design to perfection. The hotel's spacious bedrooms and suites, the majority of which enjoy fabulous sea views, are stylishly decorated in soothing shades of cream, coral and oatmeal. Almost all rooms open out onto their own private terrace.

During the warm summer months, guests staying at Anacapri's Hotel Orsa Maggiore inevitably spend much of the day by the panoramic, sea view swimming pool, topping up their tan in the solarium or enjoying a light snack or romantic sun set aperitif at the bar. Occupying a corner of the poolside terrace, the hotel's tiny "La Carruba" restaurant serves a faultless selection of the island's best-loved specialties.

Within easy walking distance of the hotel, the picturesque historic center of Anacapri is home to many craft shops and art galleries as well as the fascinating Casa Rossa and Axel Munthe museums. Of course, nobody should leave the island of Capri without having spent a few hours by the sea, exploring the island's enchanting little beaches and sea-caves or perhaps sailing around its spectacular coastline. The perfect place in which to unwind after a days exploring, Orsa Maggiore's "Alter Ego" wellness center offers an excellent range of massages, performed by highly trained massage therapists.

A most wonderful week

Impossible to fault as a base for exploring the length and breadth of the island which is beautiful. We were immediately given a wonderful welcome on arrival by Luigi and Louisa which set the tone for the whole week, with also Sylvia, Franco, Daniel, Giovanni (and the owner Toni) all being incredibly engaging and helpful at all times. Sylvia and Louisa on reception were very helpful suggesting where to have an evening meal, booking the restaurant and organising to be taken and collected whenever possible. They also gave great recommendations as to where to visit and how to get there. The room was excellent, very clean and comfortable with a large terrace with a gorgeous view across the Tyrrhenian sea towards Ischia. There is a lovely pool, towels are provided, also a bar with waiter service. There is a very convenient bus service which stops just outside the hotel which can take you to the Blue Grotto and also into Anacapri and on to Capri. It’s an easy 10minute walk to Anacapri though, and only about a 3km downhill walk to the Grotto. I’d suggest a torch for walking back from Anacapri at night. All in all a gem of a hotel with possibly the best staff we have ever met. We will definitely be staying again.

Abbiamo prenotato all'ultimo per passare 24h in mezzo alla natura, e oltre a questo abbiamo trovato un'atmosfera di gentilezza, ospitalità e armonia inaspettata. Siamo io, mio marito e nostro figlio Noah che in genere non mangia quasi nulla, grazie ai piatti che abbiamo gustato sia a pranzo che a cena lo abbiamo visto spazzolare tutto dalla prima all'ultima portata, piatti genuini e squisiti, struttura attrezzatissima per bimbi che offre giochi all'aperto ma anche all'interno, e inoltre su prenotazione organizza laboratori per bimbi veramente magnifici! Per non parlare della grande dormita che abbiamo fatto grazie all'atmosfera super rilassante...Voto 10 a Valentina, padrona di casa veramente speciale! Cecilia, Alessandro e Noah

Nydelig hotell med behagelige senger, nyoppussede rom og utrolig serviceinnstilt personale. Personalet hjalp oss med hver minste ting og fikk oss til å føle oss veldig komfortable under hele oppholdet. Kommer definitivt tilbake. Fikk et helt annet inntrykk av Capri enn da vi var på dagstur i fjor

Another Perfect Stay

This was our fourth stay at Orsa Maggiore and once again it was just wonderful. Capri is a really special place and staying at Orsa Maggiore makes it just perfect. We stayed for 10 nights and even though this was our fourth stay on the island we still found things to do that we hadn't done before. The whole team work so hard especially Silvia, Antonella, Luisa, Franco and Luigi who all go above and beyond to ensure that everything is just perfect. The housekeeping team also kept our room spotless. We would highly recommend anyone to stay at Orsa Maggiore and will always return. Thank you everyone for a lovely holiday.

On one side the green slopes of Monte Solaro, on the other a magnificent view of the sea. Hotel Orsa Maggiore is located in Anacapri, a pleasant ten minute walk away from the town's picturesque historic center, on the road which leads to Capri's legendary Grotta Azzurra.

The chairlift to the summit of Monte Solaro, the Casa Rossa Museum and the Church of San Michele are just some of the nearby tourist attractions. The fashionable Piazzetta of Capri and the island's beaches are no more than a twenty minute taxi or bus ride away.

The hotel provides a free shuttle service on arrival and departure.
