Disappointing and concerning experience - poor communication and safety issues

We booked a 4-hour private boat tour with Take Me Out Capri Tours, expecting an enjoyable and informative experience around Capri, but unfortunately it was extremely disappointing and concerning. The skipper seemed immature and uninterested throughout the tour. There was almost no interaction or explanation about the surroundings, which was disappointing because this was supposed to be more than just being driven around the island. We expected to learn about Capri, the sights, and the places we were passing, but we were mostly just left sitting there without any proper guidance or engagement. Before the tour, I had specifically confirmed that snorkeling masks would be available on board. However, when we stopped for swimming and asked for them, the skipper simply said he did not have any. There was no explanation, no apology, and no attempt to resolve it. The most concerning part was the safety issue. We had two children with us, so we asked about life jackets to make sure everyone was safe. Shockingly, the skipper said he did not have them. Only after we showed concern did he pull the boat aside, call his boss, and then try to locate them. This was very worrying because if the skipper himself did not know where the life jackets were, what would have happened in an emergency? The Blue Grotto experience was also handled very poorly. We asked how long the wait would be and were told around 30 minutes, with only a few boats ahead of us. Based on that, we agreed to wait. But instead, we ended up sitting there for around two hours in the sun, with no wind or movement, while other boats kept pushing ahead. Our skipper did not seem proactive at all and did not communicate properly with the other boats or keep us updated. Two people in our group became seasick while we were waiting. After wasting almost half of our 4-hour tour, we were then told that the Blue Grotto was closed. I understand that the Blue Grotto opening depends on conditions and is not fully in the company’s control. However, the poor communication, lack of professionalism, missing snorkeling equipment, and confusion around life jackets made the whole experience feel badly managed and unsafe. For the price of a private 4-hour tour, this was simply not acceptable. We left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and honestly shocked by the lack of basic preparation and professionalism. I would not recommend this tour, especially for families with children.

Fantastic experience with the legendary skipper Giuseppe. He told us details and anecdotes related to life on the island and the history of the caves. We had a great time!

Beautiful experience managed with care and professionalism by Take me out Capri. A tour of the island guided with rare mastery and abundance of details and information by Peppe, a skilled long-time sailor, Caprese doc. Highly recommended!

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic experience with this new company, everything was perfect from the reception. We did the tour in the afternoon so we didn't find much crowd at the blue cave. I would definitely recommend it.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Is the Blue Grotto visit guaranteed during the tour?

The Blue Grotto visit is never guaranteed; access depends entirely on sea and wind conditions, and the grotto can open and close multiple times throughout the day. During high season, waiting times can reach up to 2 hours. The entrance ticket is not included in the tour price and is paid on site. For this reason, the best approach is to decide on the spot based on conditions at the time.

What are the cancellation terms?

Free cancellation is available up to 2 days before the tour date. Payment is not charged at booking, but on the day of the service, so nothing is due upfront. Cancellations made after the 2-day cutoff are subject to a 100% payment of the cost of the service.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the tour?

If sea conditions make departure impossible, the booking is canceled with no penalty or rescheduled if possible, depending on availability.

Where does the tour depart from and where is the meeting point?

The meeting point is at the entrance to the tourist harbor (Darsena) in Marina Grande, Capri. The tour departs directly from Capri. There are no departures from other locations.

Is there a toilet on board?

It depends on the boat you choose. The Classic Gozzo does not have a toilet on board. The Special Gozzo, the Z30 Motorboat, the Tuccoli 30, and the Tornado 38 all include a bathroom. Families with children or anyone booking a longer trip should opt for one of these boats. Restroom availability is noted in each boat's description at the time of booking.

Can you bring a dog on the tour?

Yes, dogs are welcome on board during the tour. It's preferable to mention your pet at the time of booking so the crew can make the best arrangements for having them on board.

Are strollers allowed on board during the tour?

Yes, strollers are welcome on board. It's a good idea to mention it at booking so the crew can plan boarding as smoothly as possible.

Can you bring luggage on board during the tour?

It depends on the boat chosen and the available space on board. There are no strict weight limits, but it's helpful to let the team know the number, type, and size of your bags at the time of booking so everything can be arranged accordingly. In some cases, a supplement may apply.
